Today, I did a training session with Biko. It was SO good to see him. It has been far too long. He kicked my butt. I didn't lose any weight this week, but that isn't too bad considering it was Christmas!

Couch to 5k Day 1 AGAIN
Today, I set out to do Couch to 5k Week 1 Day 1 again. It started raining when I was about halfway through. I had my new iphone with me and didnt want to get it soaked, so I did a 2 minute interval with a 1 minute break, and then I did a 4 min run interval and then a 1 min rest, 1 min run, then cool down. I was surprised I could do the 4 min run piece.
Step 1 - CHECK!
Step 1 - CHECK!
Two Weeks Down
My two week trial was splendid. I did struggle with running as my ankle was really hurting. It was a really weird pain that hurt even just walking around. otherwise, it was awesome. No caffeine, no processed food, and 2.2% body fat and 7 lbs lost. I really have enjoyed the food and I have definitely tried MANY things that I would never have had.
Favorites foods of the week...
Steak salad - YUM
Spinach with gorganzola cheese
Quinoa (who knew?)
tilapia
good for you waffles and skinny french toast
ground turkey with tomato sauce over spaghetti squash
Greek yogurt with kashi go lean and berries
Many more but those are a good sample
For Christmas, I was bad - very bad. But it was sooo yummy. I had Yamato Japanese, movie theater popcorn, christmas cookies, and mcdonald's chicken nuggets!!! Oh, it was a fun weekend, but Monday I got right back down to business with my healthy food. So, two days under my belt again. Wednesdays are weigh in days, so I will see how my second weigh in went. I actually started on a monday, so my first weigh in had 9 days. :) I don't expect to have a good one tomorrow since I was bad over Christmas, but at least I am not gaining weight over the holidays.
Also, I have not had diet coke now in 16 days. :)

Today is my first day in a two week trial of eating no processed food, no diet coke, and no artificial sweetener. For breakfast, I had quinoa with blueberries and scrambled egg whites. I had a cranberry bar thingy (all natural) for a snack For lunch, I had a spinach salad with fruit on it and steak on it with raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I had pirate booty for a snack. For dinner, I had tilapia with guinea and carrots, squash, and green beans. Yum!!!!!!!!
Today was surprisingly easy. A touch of a caffeine headache tonight but otherwise it was cake. Not hungry, liked all the food, feel great about it.
I also learned to put lemon juice with club soda and stevia! It is really good!

A new beginning
2010 was a great year for me from a health a fitness level. I did my first half marathon, my second half marathon, my first olympic triathlon, my second olympic triathlon, my first half iron, and my first marathon. Unfortunately, I hurt my knee before the marathon, but I did it anyway which caused me to struggle with knee pain for months. I was also a bit burned out I think after all of that. I went from a couch potato to a half ironman and marathon finisher in 18 months. It was a bit extreme.
2011 was not a great year from a health and fitness level. I had the knee injury for months, and then just when I started back on track with St. Anthony's triathlon, I sprained my ankle. Then, just when it was getting better, I sprained it again. Then, I had kidney issues. So while those were challenges I faces, I failed the test because I let myself use them as excuses. I could have done a lot of things when my knee was hurt to work on core, my upper body, and I certainly could have eaten well. I just went 180 degrees and started eating crap and drive throughs and my favorite mexican place with margaritas. I was struggling with a lot of personal issues with work, family, and friends combined, and I think I totally used all of that as an outlet that I shouldn't have.
I am so very mad at myself for letting myself go back into such unhealthy habits and for setting a bad example for the kids. I am so sad that I went for a 3.7 mile jolk (jogging and walking intervals) yesterday and I am SO SORE. Wow. That is so sad and pitiful.
But, I have been inspired again and I am going to do my best to get healthy again. This time, I am going to try to learn how to sustain it. I need to learn how to fit healthy eating into my lift AND i need to learn how to deal with injuries as I am sure I will have more.
So, tomorrow, 12/12, I am going to do a 2 week experiment where I am not going to have any processed foods or diet coke. I hope my family, friends, and coworkers are ready for me :) I think I have gotten SO used to convenience foods that I don't even know what real food is anymore. I also want to set a good example for the kids and teach them how to not struggle like I have.
So, here's to a new beginning. I pray I have the strength to change.
